Naval, Biliran— The number 1 Most Wanted Person of this town was arrested about 7:30 in the evening on Wednesday (July 7) at Brgy Bato, Biliran, Biliran.
Naval COP Police Major Michael John Astorga identified the accused as Artemio Mahait, 60, widower, laborer and resident of Brgy Haguikhikan, Naval, Biliran.
The suspect was arrested by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest Presiding Judge Bienvenido M Montalla, of RTC, 8th Judicial Region, Branch 16, Naval, Biliran, dated August 8, 2017 for statutory rape under Criminal Case No – N-3486 & N-34872 with no bail bond recommended.
The case stemmed from the complaint of the parents of two minor in 2016. Case record shows that sometime in the month of December 2016, the accused suspect Artemio Mahait sexually abused two minors ages (8 & 9 years old). The victims according to the court record were lured by the suspect with money and they were both sexually abused inside his house for three or several times.
The police said that when a case was filed in court against the accused in year 2017, he suddenly disappeared and went into hiding. Then, due to the collective efforts from different units mentioned above, the accused was located and subsequently arrested eventually.
But the accused during interview inside the detention cell in Naval Police Station denied the accusation against him.
After documentation at the place of arrest, said accused was brought to this police station for proper disposition.
