Woman stabbed to death by live-in partner; suspect also stabbed himself in Caibiran, Biliran.
CAIBIRAN, Biliran – A 21-year old woman died after being stabbed by her live-in partner along the national road of Sitio Miyapi, Brgy. Bariis, Caibiran, Biliran.
The victim was identified as Cris Ann Ortilano y Abanag, unemployed, resident of Sitio Miyapi, Brgy. Bariis, Caibiran, Biliran.
Based on the investigation of the authorities, the woman had wanted to separate from her partner, but the latter wanted reconciliation. The conflict resulted in the stabbing incidents.
The suspect stabbed the victim four (4) times, hitting and wounding at the different parts of the body using a sundang.
Then upon knowledge of the suspect that the victim will possibly die, he stabbed himself using the same sundang and wounding his chest. This is according to Caibiran Chief of Police Lieutenant Vic R Viros.
The victim was brought to Caibiran RHU for immediate medical attention, but was declared Dead on Arrival (DOA) by the attending physician, Dr. Dionesio B. Plaza.
The suspect was also brought to Caibiran RHU, but was subsequently referred to the Biliran Provincial Hospital, Naval, Biliran.
Police Lieutenant Viros added that the suspect was under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
The crime happened at 5:40 PM on April 19, 2020.
The suspect, Benedicto Jr. Belsa y Arante, alias Benhar, 32 years old, a farmer, resident of Sitio Miyapi, native of Brgy. Atipolo, Capoocan, Leyte, was promptly arrested. He confessed to committing the crime and said sorry for what he had done.
The suspect has been admitted at EVRMC Tacloban.
A murder case has been filed against the suspect. Inquest proceedings had also been done.
